That strive for microsecond-scale latencies for
application level communication continues.
Most purveyors of microsec solutions move datapath
processing to user space so as to avoid pre-emption and
have better control of latencies. Kostis Kaffes and
Christos Kozyrakis argue that preemptive scheduling
is infact _a good thing_.
In this talk, they will describe their approach: Shinjuku

Kostis and Christos will also raise the question
and discuss whether these user space approaches are
incrementally building full-featured operating system
kernels.
